Isle of Avalon
Glastonbury is an otherworldly place, from its legends which connect it with King Arthur and Morgana Le Fay, to the Tor which rises majestically above the Somerset Levels, and from within flow forth two springs, one white and one red due to the high content of calcium and iron, respectively.
Known as the Avalon, or the Island of Apples, today the orchards which encircle the Tor, offer the splendour of all the seasons, from the spring blossoms to the harvest season where all the trees brim with apples.
Glastonbury Tor is also linked with Gwyn Ap Nudd. ‘Son of White Mist’, he is the King of the Annwn or the Otherworld. Symbolic of Winter, he sometimes hunts around the time of the Winter Solstice with his pack of red-eared, white hounds. Further East in England, some have compared him to Herne the Hunter.
